As a Federally recognized 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, the mission of the 504 Project is to break barriers and to challenge and change policies and practices which limit or deny services or infringe upon students’ rights to a free and appropriate education.
Our vision is that all students have individualized plans, and all services are administered to fidelity in a safe and nurturing environment. Further, those plans should be reviewed frequently and adjusted when and as needed to ensure we are building the best future possible for our students!
The 504 Project is a policy-based organization. We are not designed, nor equipped to provide individualized educational services.
The 504 Project is a Policy and Advocacy based organization. A 501(c)(3) organization may engage in some lobbying "to influence legislation if it contacts, or urges the public to contact, members or employees of a legislative body for the purpose of proposing, supporting, or opposing legislation, or if the organization advocates the adoption or rejection of legislation. Organizations may, however, involve themselves in issues of public policy without the activity being considered as lobbying. For example, organizations may conduct educational meetings, prepare and distribute educational materials, or otherwise consider public policy issues in an educational manner without jeopardizing their tax-exempt status." https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/lobbying
